On many occasions people have asked, “Why do you feel a need to carry a gun?” My response is always the same, “To protect myself and my family.” Some say that our police will protect you. Therefore there is no need for people to carry a gun for protection.
Unfortunately the police cannot be everywhere at all times. Don’t get me wrong. I support our law enforcement. They do a great job. But based on the current population and the total number of law enforcement officers, one police office must protect nearly two thousand people. This is an unrealistic expectation.
The anti gun people feel no one needs a gun. I believe we have a God given right to protect ourselves from evil. The constitution supports this idea because our forefathers knew the importance of the people owning guns. When we read about most violent crimes being committed, the police arrived after the crime had been completed.
Carrying a gun is a very personal decision. Each individual must decide for themselves whether they want to take on the responsibility that comes with carrying a firearm. I would never try to talk someone into carrying a gun. Nor do I think anyone should criticize someone for making the decision to carry a firearm. Unfortunately in today’s society if someone doesn’t think the same as another individual, that is reason to hate and threaten.
Guns are tools for a specific purpose. Some guns are used for hunting. Some for sport and some for protection. Like all tools they can they can be abused and used for bad instead of good.
Some of the questions one should ask themselves are: Why do I want to carry a gun? When can I carry my gun? What will I do in areas where guns are not allowed? How will I carry my gun? What type of gun should I carry? How often will I go to the range to practice? These are questions that most people try to answer before deciding whether or not to carry a firearm.
So if you decide to start carrying a gun that is great. It may give you peace of mind knowing you can protect yourself. However if you decide that you are not comfortable carrying a gun, that is great as well. Don’t allow others to pressure you in your decision. Analyze what is best for you and then follow through with your decision.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
